The housekeeper working at the house of President Chen Shui-bian's daughter and son in-law yesterday blamed the media for the loss of her national health insurance (NHI) coverage.

Lin Shiu-jen received official notice from the Presidential Office that the government has terminated the payment for her NHI premiums as she is no longer a government employee.

She must now pay the bulk of the NHI premiums of her and her family, which were once paid by the government due to her status since a public functionary.

But from now on Lin has switched her NHI association to local household registration office like "unemployed" people or those who have no lasting employers.

She must pay the premiums from her own pocket.
