The State of Kids' Coverage report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) revealed that the number of uninsured children has declined by 2 million since SCHIP's formation and the new expansion of Medicaid coverage.
"The decline in the number of uninsured kids is a rare piece of fine news for our nation's health care system," said Dr. Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, president and chief executive officer of RWJF, the nation's largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to improving Americans' health and health care.
The federal government contributed $4 billion yearly to SCHIP in fiscal 2004 and 2005. It would give $5 billion in the upcoming fiscal year.
